Choosing Peace

The International Day of Peace falls on 21 September each year and it is aimed at ending war and violence in all its forms. I thought I would write a blog on these issues – the horror of war and civil conflict, the terror of relational violence such as domestic violence, sexual assault and childhood abuse.

But as I was browsing in preparation for this week’s Weekly Top 10, I came across a TED talk that moved me so strongly and that resonated with my beliefs about peace and about individual and social change so closely, that I found myself with nothing else to say today, other than to encourage you all to watch Zak Ebrahim’s talk.

Zak shares his experience as the son of one of the people who planned the World Trade Centre bombing in 1993. He is articulate and wise and he has chosen a different path – one of peace. Zak is also the author of the book, ‘The Terrorist’s Son: A Story of Choice‘ (TED Book 2014).

May you have a happy International Peace Day.
